Hi Spike,

Sorry, but I do not understand the differences in the internal structure of the Lubuntu desktop iso file and the Lubuntu alternate iso file, and how that will affect how to select language.

Best regards
Nio

Hi,

I just finished testing with the alternative iso, which hasn't made any
difference and looking into it that's not surprising, it basically seems
a server iso with the preseed/lubuntu.seed doing a tasksel of
lubutu-desktop, ie the same thing I was doing manually by installing
mini and then apt-get install lubuntu-desktop.

This means that somehow the lubuntu iso and the alternative/mini +
lubuntu-desktop are different, just can't figure out why/how (for sure
I've noticed the presence of ibus, which is not in a lubuntu official
iso install, but gets installed both from mini and alternative CD). So
clearly there's more than a base install + lubuntu-desktop. Do you know
what other steps may go into it?

That said I tried to add simple pinyin and it worked so fcitx isn't
completely broken. Nonetheless there is a problem with sogou input which
works fine if installed on a lubuntu iso and not if installed on
alternative/mini.

would love to figure out what's up with the differences that break
sogou, probably related to something with language prefs and the fact
that ibus is installed, but maybe that's a red-herring.

thanks again for your help,

Spike

ah, I hadn't realized there was an alternative iso for lubuntu too.
I will test with that, thank you, if it uses the same d-i setup and
not ubiquity that may be just what I need.

thank you again for your help,

        Hi again Spike,

Did you try the Lubuntu alternate iso file? It uses the debian
        installer
(the same text mode installer as is used in the mini.iso). Maybe
        that
        will work better.

        Best regards
