Make sure your duplex settings on the Linux and the Router match, as well as
the duplex between the Linux and the switch.
The router will respond to pings if it has been set to a different setting
from the card, but will drop most of the packets due to late collisions.

Also, make sure the switch vlan config is such that the linux is physically
in the same vlan as the rest of the internal LAN otherwise the two will not
see each other.
