What I have come to learn over the years is it's not about the little things you do for the customer, but the little things you do for the customer and tell them about it :). You may find an ISP has been (quietly) using acceleration/caching systems for over a year, and some new ISP comes up and does the same, only that it tells its customers about its abilities; and the customers simply assume it is the better ISP. Other examples, here, are numerous... Once customers are kept in the loop (even of the most mundane of product features and value-adds), you will always be seen as the innovative provider, however much the competition has had the same service running in the past (but hasn't trumpeted enough about it).
