As Kiggs said, pick your poison and enjoy, for us in Uganda Martyrs University are finding Knoppix very good for us in the front end and are going in for it fully. Where hard disk space allows, it is our preffered distribution. Only problem is that it ships with an older version of Open Office which we are trying to see if we can upgrade after doing the initial installation. However allow me to point out that it is SuSE on the backend and if we are ever faced with an absolute need to change the OS on the backend, i think it will be .... SuSE!!!!
> Hmmmm... Kiggs, I must say you are extremely good at marketing and PR. Are you in the right industry? Go SuSE... go SuSE... (www.distrowatch.com) I don't know about the other distros but the only antidote or should I say panacea that seems to work for me and my laptop is Slackware... > > Have fun! :^) > > > > Kiggundu Mukasa <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > >Fred, > >RedHat is a good distribution and many distributions use its rpm format > >(including SuSE). > >Being American they quickly noticed the importance of marketing and are > >now number one because of it (e.g. they were first with the "enterprise > >server" notion). > > > >As for software quality I think SuSE has the edge (e.g. Oracle 9 > >certified first on SuSE). But as with all linux some tweaking is always > >required. The thing that SuSE really has going for it is that as the > >largest Multinational/Multilingual distribution, they have tended to be > >more "worldy" in their outlook and it reflects in their product. > > > >They each have their strong points and their weak points and even the > >critics have no finality on this one. Pick your poison an enjoy. For > >me I have watched SuSE grow from below Mandrake and Slakware in Market > >share to Number 2 based on quality so I am happy (except for the fact > >that they have never done a SuSE ppc after 7.1). > > > >Kiggs > > > >On Thu, 2003-09-11 at 10:28, Fred Bbaale wrote: > > > >> People , is it only me who feels uncomfortable with RedHat being adopted > >> by many as the De Facto Linux Distribution? > >> > >> Fred. > >> > >> > >> > >> --------------------------------------------- > >> This service is hosted on the Infocom network > >> http://www.infocom.co.ug > > > >-- > >**************** ***************************** > >Kiggundu Mukasa # Computer Network Consultancy### > >KYM-NET LTD. # Intranets & Internet Solutions# > >Plot 80 Kanjokya Street > >P.O.
