End user, NO
But developer, YES!

If you know the platform and its open source, then you can create that killer-app you always wanted to and vault yourself from nothing to billionaire on the backs of hundreds of millions of mobile-phone users.

For example, In the US they are paranoid about the whereabouts of their kids (a gun in every pocket, peadophiles etc.) so write an app that reads the base-station and sends the parents an sms every hour on which base station their kid is using that way they can keep track of the kid. For a society with only one child or so per couple, losing that one kid and paying $5 for the killer app is a no-brainer. So say you sell only 100,000 such apps (less than 5% of US population) then you are on your way!

It will run linux and so? Unless you are in the business of manufacturing phones, I don't see any benefit to the end user.

Motorola is planning to release a skype ready phone.

That is what I call adding zing to a phone!

As much as I had great hopes for the SymbianOS, noises I am hearing seem to be pointing to a future with either M$ or Linux-based cellphones. Symbian is great but the development tools are simply awful. And you need to have the developers on your side...
