That would not be fair (the comparison, I mean :).

wrt what Henry said earlier, you're probably right about the recent mobile 
phone explosion in Africa, but mobile phone services have grown because of 
their reach and availability in areas (probably cheaper) landlines have 
failed to reach. Whether it has to do with availability of electricity in 
those areas or not, some connectivity is better than none at all, even though 
it may be more expensive than land-based calls (but then again, there's SMS).

Needless to say, some telcos are very expensive, others provide very poor 
quality services (remember the days of UP&TC), you'd be lucky if your 
application for a line installation is seen by anyone within 6 months, 
billing, bureaucracy, e.t.c. Things change with (healthy) competition.

Mobile phones are like young men dating older women, more advanced problems, 
but generally, no hang-ups :).

Satellite Tv, well, let's face it, national television doesn't make for any 
good home-coming.
