Thanks Emma! well I don't think it's hardware prob. because it was running the same FC3  in permisive mode.I think when I switched it to Strict mode (that was silly of me) that's when I saw hell on earth. :-)
I tried my knoppix and Phlak cds  but all in vain they say can't mount read only file system
Installed the FC on ext3 file system.

Does the knoppix refuse to mount the hard disk completely or it only mounts in read only mode...?
