I think you'll find that the SuSE supporters on this list aren't de facto
Novell supporters. We're FOSS supporters first and foremost.
Maybe I'm being idealist here, but there's no reason for the new
Microsoft-Novell partnership to actually affect openSUSE.
You are actually an idealist or naive i see "but there's no reason for the new
Microsoft-Novell partnership to actually affect openSUSE." Opensuse
is not a community project it is a creation of novell and owned by
novell, contribution to this project means you have to endose the
contribution agreement put in place by M$/Novell first.
Next most project could possibly in the near future change thier
licensing to ensure that companies like novell dont use the very
software that has been created by the community aganist them or as
bargaining chips to conclude deals like this one that only benefit
novell and it's shareholders, this would sound the death kneel for
opensuse as they would not be able to package or use these products. A
good candidates for crippling a distro like suse could be the gnu C
library and the GCC collection of tools possibly if linus sees the
light now the linux kernel under GPL3 would mean the end of openSuse.
After all, now
that they've given us the code for YaST they're free to go to bed with The
Great Satan (tm)....
