Hi,
Try LILO. Chances are that your BIOS doesnt work with grub. Had the
same problem some time ago on a Dell Optiplex.
Also if you have a SATA drive, in your lilo.conf file you should add
something like: append="pci=nomsi".

If i remember correctly, you need to choose the disk to boot from in
bios.
I once came across a proliant server that couldn't boot when the disk
was attached to it's onboard SCSI controller but would boot when you
put in a RAID controller and attached the disk to it.
