This mast sharing thing looks easy to talk about, but try think of how to implement it. Of course put in mind that the height at which the antenna is placed matters greatly, not forgetting that apart from MTN and in some places UTL, most use Microwave antennas to propagate the signal further.... so , please, picture a single mast in Ntinda every few miles for all current 4 telcos, remembering that there is 3 more who are coming along soon... not to mention site access problems. do they share a single room housing the equipment, do they share the generator? are these utilities provided for by all telcos?much as a one-mast policy may look neat... there are a few things that we may be missing on it. Any radio transmission gurus to educate us on what it takes to setup a mast for a given telco... you know, the elevations, distance between masts (different antennas being used of course), inteference...
Shared or not, these cell sites are starting to become "eye sores". UCC could ask operators to "camouflage" the BTSes may be? In many developing and developed countries, BTSes are camouflaged into trees, chimneys, electricity pylons, ...
