Well Linux servers are used for botnets. The ubuntu forums have several
posts of user's machines that have been rootkited. If you leave you
machine exposed to the internet and monitor the traffic you will see
hackers try and gain control of the machine all day long. The OS has
less to do with security these days. More often than not it is the
computing habits of the end users.
