Yes the community edition still has to be backed up via a perl or bash script but several exist and work well. The main problem being that you have to shutdown the server to backup all the files. http://wiki.zimbra.com/index.php?title=Open_Source_Edition_Backup_Procedure
It still has a complex mail-dir structure system. The community version does both have an LDAP Server and can also authenticate against an LDAP server i.e. OpenLDAP, AD, Ebox etc. Simon Vass Technical Manager E-Tech Uganda Ltd http://www.etech.ug Tel: +256 (0) 312260620 or (0) 312260621 email: [email protected] skype: e-techservicedesk ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kyle Spencer" <[email protected]> To: "Linux Users Group Uganda" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, 24 February, 2010 2:46:05 PM Subject: Re: [LUG] Webmail Open source The community version of Zimbra also doesn't come with backup/restore functionality last I checked. That said, I do believe I saw a few 3rd party scripts floating around the Internet to handle this, though I haven't tried any myself. Furthermore, even if you wanted to use your own backup solution (rdiff-backup, Bacula, etc), you still can't easily restore individual e-mails/mailboxes/etc because Zimbra Community uses some ridiculous form of maildir+indexing with randomized filenames & paths for storage. Also, last time I worked with it there was no good way of saving sent-items to an external IMAP-accounts sent-items folder. Simon, do these issues still persist in the newer versions? Also, does the community version have LDAP support?
