I believe it mainly based on X Windows unsuitability for mobile architecture 
such as tablets and ARM based devices, which probably quite rightly they see as 
a big part of the market. I also don't know why people love to panic over this, 
we already know anything removed will always be a apt-get away ;-) Pidigin/GIMP 
anyone?

Seems like Shuttleworth has got some major plans up his sleeve for the Ubuntu 
Desktop platform. I mean why would he first take up Unity in favour of Gnome 
and now X windows is out of favour and in comes Wayland. These are really major 
changes. I simply cant wait to have a taste of the 11.04 release.
