What Version of Suse are you using ?

I have use opensuse 11.2 and 11.3 and on both I have been able to use usb
modems through the network manager that comes with opensuse.

1. go to yast and set your default network management to Network Manager

2. once network manager is running, connect your USB Modem

3. right click on the network manager icon in the system tray and select manage
connections.

4. select add gsm connection and edit the connection name

5. Select the number to dial ( for Orange that Number is *99#)

6. Enter the APN (for orange that is orange.ug)

7.Make sure that select automatically checkbox is checked

8. On the PPP tab , select the authentication options that suit you network (
for orange check the following, authentication, PAP, CHAP, MSCHAPv2, MSCHAP,
EAP

9. On Orange you may also check , allow BSD compression, Allow Deflate
compression, USE TCP header compression

NB: For Zain then number is *99# and the APN is web.ug.zain.com unless they
change to airtel

For the other networks call customer care on that network and ask for their APN
because most use the same number to dial.
