Going to hang on a little while, to iron out the bugs. Love the fact you can
upgrade straight from the DVD though, don't need to use the alternate DVD. That
is a big improvement. I hope they expand that to allow upgrading from say 10.04
---> 11.04 etc.

Subject: Re: [LUG] Ubuntu Natty

I've been running Natty for a week now and the new Unity environment has really
grown on me. Once you get over the initial "Grrmmmphhh- change is bad" reaction
and actually start using it, it's quite slick and efficient. I have more screen
real estate now and never have to click through menus finding a program- just
hit the super key once, type the first few letters of the application you want
to launch, and hit enter- don't even touch the mouse.

I can honestly say that after only a week I am now faster and more efficient
with Unity than I ever was with the previous GNOME desktop interface. There are
definitely a few rough edges though- Unity attempts to replace the systray with
new and improved 'indicators'- which is a good move, but unfortunately many
apps (such as DropBox and Skype) don't implement the new indicator interface
yet so you have to do some ugly hacks to get them to work.

I anticipate Natty getting a pretty negative reaction because people tend to be
so resistant to change (and - in fairness - because as the first Unity release
things are far from perfect) but I commend Canonical and the Ubuntu community
for being willing to stick their necks out and try to improve the Linux desktop
experience knowing many seasoned users won't be initially comfortable with it,
and therefore extremely critical of it.

If you approach Natty and Unity with an open mind and give it a fair trial for
a week or so, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised as I was (and I was as
skeptical and ready to sling mud as anyone).

Hi,

I added the Ubuntu & Kubuntu Natty 11.04 iso's to the downloads page

http://linux.or.ug/Downloads

On a properly connected Ugandan network, that should be faster to download.
