Considering the fact that the number one selling sony ericsson smartphone in
Africa is the xperia mini
A device with android 1.6, no, users don't really care. Still it just goes
to show you, the evils of forking
The build then baking in proprietary mods and guis. I wish people could
learn from the Linux community!!

It is never good to fork an open source project unless you are ready and
willing to "commit early, and commit
often" (as we say in the software development community). This is why I
moved from stock android to MIUI.
Every Friday we get an update of the fixing the bugs noticed during the
week. MIUI is a health vibrant community
that already has ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) in the next build. All this while
windows has not yet got its pants on
Let alone gotten out of bed!!

I think when you buy an android device, first check its specs and ensure it
is easily flashable. Also learn to flash
roms cause trust me, when you get the kindle fire, the way forward is to
flash it with cyanogen and use it as an
all-purpose tablet.

Do most of the android device users care?
(I do, but perhaps many I know of, who make more than 90% of android
customer case, do not).
