I know folks still using their iPhone 3G units today. I know
iPhone 3GS users who are happy that their units are still
compatible with the latest iteration of iOS (albeit with
acceptable restrictions).

This may be a simple, but rather important thing to consider
from vendors, especially if the hardware is still capable.

And I think this is where the "Android model" is going to
lose them business in the long run. I know folk running
Android that are regularly changing phones just to keep up
with the developments in software. Yes, at some point the
software outpaces the hardware and you really do have to
swap a unit out with something newer, but a life expectancy
of 8 months if quite unreasonable for the "wananchi" that
need decent kit they can keep current for as long as
possible.

"Props" to all those on not-so-smart phones, for they hear
nothing of these woes :-).

Mark.
