   That seems to have done the trick.  For the benefit of everyone on this list 
using zfs... The issue I encountered with zfs is described here:
https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/issues/2523

   To resolve it I had to download the newest zfs 0.6.3, recompile it, then 
recompile the lustre server rpms.  After I recompiled it and installed it on 
the test system (which had its zpools created, but never mounted) I was able to 
mount the osts on that system for the first time.  I can't quite declare 
victory just yet, as I still need to perform the process on a system with data. 
 But I'm fairly confident that the data will be safe.

While I have never tried what you are describing, I am just assuming that 
changing the ZFS version will require a rebuild of Lustre.  The error messages 
you reported reminded me of similar errors I have seen on a couple of occasions 
where OFED was upgraded on a system, but Lustre was not rebuilt against the new 
version.
