Yes, in strict time there is definately the pulse that would fit a danced
pavan.

I find that a pieces character changes quite a bit depending upon the tempo
it's played -- and Lachrimae has been played at many varying tempos on
record.
So, what character/tempo are you speaking about? Also, if it's played in
more
strict time, it feels more like a melancholy dance than if one is more free
with the tempo.
