I have a question regarding Ennemond Gaultier. In the cd liner notes of the
Vieux Gaultier cd of Hopkinson Smith it says that he created his performance
of the "Chaconne ou Cascade de Mr. Launnay" from two versions. I am aware of
the "standard" Saizenay version of the "Chaconne...." which is also found in
the CNRS edition. Where can the other version be found, which seems to have
different variations including an ascending bass line if I remember
correctly. I also looked for it in the D. and E. Gaultier book published by
Minkoff.

While on the subject of French Baroque Lute music and recordings, does
anyone know where the Chaconne in track 21 of Lutz Kirchoff's "Lute in Dance
and Dream" comes from. The cd says for track 21 (which has two movements):
  21 - CH.Mouton/Dubut(?): Prelude - Chaconne
I am a bit confused.
I looked in the Minkoff Mouton book, the Dubut, Mouton and Anonymous
chaconnes in Saizenay and also the Dubut CNRS Collection and could not find
it. It sounds very "virtuosic" and has a couple of variations with a
chromatic line.
Thanks for the help,
Jason Yoshida

Monteilhet also has 2 excellent CDs on theorbo: one De Visee, and one Bach
theorbo transcriptions of cello suites.
