There was a guitarist from Bute
who thought he'd start playing the lute,
but his fingers and rings
got caught in the strings,
so instead he got pissed as a newt.

A lute player thought he would try
to play a tune by Dufay,
but, tragic to say, =20
played Josquin des Pr=E9s,=20
then burned his new lute - with a sigh.

A lute player wasn't too sure
how to cope with French tablature,
so he first played each letter,
which made things no better,
but sounded discordantly poor.

John Dowland thought he'd compose
some music, but, quite indisposed,
he got it all wrong,
composing a song
in the style of H. Berlioz.

While performing 'Greensleeves' one fine day
a lutenist quite lost his way,
so he jumped on his lute,
which twanged, then went mute,
so 'Greensleeves' turned from green into grey.
