>That would partly depend on the quality of the lute and whether it could be brought back to its original condition. If it's a piece of junk, you would get to the break-even point fairly quickly. If it's a fine lute by a major luthier and had wonderful action and sound, you would probably repair it as much as possible. The cheapest new student lute sells at about $1000; you could probably get a lot of repair work done for that price.
