Awww... don't listen about the nails. Do you want to dedicate yourself to the lute? Do you see yourself playing lute professionally? Then cut off the nails. However, if you want to continue playing guitar as you have repeatedly mentioned, keep your nails. You should be able to develop a thumb-under technique that avoids the nails. This may mean re-shaping your nails, but you can still play a genuine modern classical guitar. (This is what I do.) I did experiment for about a year with cutting off my nails completely. I found that my lute technique didn't improve all that much, but I wasn't able to play guitar at all anymore! Modern lutenists often forget to mention that there is actually a fair amount of evidence that some ancient players purposely played _with_ nails, too. Chris __________________________________ Yahoo!
