Dear Herbert, There is an extraordinary photo of Chris Wilson on the back of the booklet of his 'Fantasia de mon triste' CD showing his lute with a strong backlight where you can see that effect. In that particular case the light is clearly shining through the back of the lute and still illuminating the inside of the soundboard. However, it won't work with every lute as only some of the woods used for ribs are that translucent....
