Hello,
in the Stift Kremsmünster they have 6 lutes (5x11-course lutes and 1x 9-course lutes - mandora?), that had been left quite unchanged since about 1730. All of them have 2 strap buttons, so they had been used with straps most probably!

Best regards
Markus

Hi, Josh.

The question I am wondering is,
was the Lute ever actually played standing up?

Sure. For example

As for strapping, that is a different question. Perhaps some of the
historical inspectors of lutes might comment on the existence, or not,
of end pins in the extant instruments? Their presence would be a sure
give-away...
