Not directly related, but nonetheless worthwhile to know.
LDD lutes are made in China. The workshops that make these lutes might
sell them to other buyers, but under another brand name, either their
   own or the customer's.

This happens with guitars. I have a great Eastman jazzguitar, custom
made for me in China. It's Eastman, because I bought it from Eastman
through their local dealer here in town. On the web I can order exactly
the same guitar, with discount if I order 10 or more, from a Chinese
workshop. The same workshop where my Eastman was made? I don't know.
Everything is the same, even the headstock, only the Eastman logo is
missing. Eastman will tell me they have final quality control over the
instruments that are sold under their brand name. I believe them.
Friend of mine ordered a custom Les Paul from China. Again: a great
copy, no complaints about the quality.

David - no lutes from China, only an erhu and good memories

     Dear all,
Last October 2018 I was casually checking out if Thomann
     ([2]www.thomann.de)
had any interesting Baroque guitars for sale. Instead, I found a
     series of
what seemed to be very interesting Renaissance and Baroque lutes
     called
Thomann Cantarella (this was the first time I saw these Thomann
     lutes and
names). They were 7 and 8 courses Renaissance and 13 courses Baroque
     lutes.
What has surprised and interested me at the time was the fact that
     these
lutes looked exactly as the ones built by the French company Le Luth
     Doré (
     [3]www.leluthdore.com).
I have two LLD Lutes, an 8c Renaissance and a 13c Baroque one. I was
     really
surprised when looking at these Thomann lutes because they seemingly
     have a
very similar/maybe the same logo as my LLD one?. By very similar I
     mean It
even looks to have the crown on top of the LLD letters. The case,
     varnish
and overall look made me stare back and forth Thomann's page and my
     own
     lute.
I'm putting some pictures here so you guys can see if I'm correct or
     not.
Since Thomann was selling these lutes at the time (right now they
     seem to
be out of stock) with a couple hundred euros price reduction
     compared to
     LLD's webstore([4]www.leluthdore.com), I thought that maybe Thomann
     has made a
special deal with LLD (Thomann is the biggest reseller of music
     instruments
in the world, and, because of that, they would have lower selling
     prices)?
Today once again I went to Thomann seeking these lutes, but it seems
     that
they are gone? I can't find them either by searching or from my
     bookmarked
     links:
     1) Thomann Cantarella Renaissance Lute 7C (
     [5]https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_cantarella_renaissance_lute_13.
     htm)
     2) Thomann Cantarella Renaissance Lute 8C (
     [6]https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_cantarella_renaissance_lute_15.
     htm)
     3) Thomann Cantarella Baroque Lute 13C (
     [7]https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_cantarella_baroque_lute_13c.htm
     )
     Some questions for you guys:
        1. Did anyone buy one of these Lutes?
        2. Has anyone contacted Thomann and asked if they are indeed the
     same
lutes built and sold by LLD? or if they have any sort of
     arrangement?
        3. For anyone who bought it: do you have any idea if those are
     similar
in terms of quality to a proper LLD?
One of the pictures is in czech because I often click around other
countries in order to see from where, hypothetically, could I buy
     the
     cheapest.
     Kind Regards,
     Bruno Rucy
