On Debian 8 Live, live-boot(7) indicates you do it the same way you did
when ipconfig was built into the kernel in like 1997:
ip=[DEVICE]:[CLIENT_IP]:[NETMASK]:[GATEWAY_IP]:[NAMESERVER][,[DEVICE]:[CLIENT_IP]:[NETMASK]:[GATEWAY_IP]:[NAMESERVER]]
This is because it uses klibc-utils' ipconfig(8),
which is admittedly a TERRIBLE THING.
Also: live-boot/live-config manpages tend to proactively descibe
features that haven't actually been written yet; don't trust them :-)

I do it with "syndaemon -Rdtk" in ~/.xsession,
which disables it only while typing.
