My guess is that there are two problems:

    a. "lxpanelctl restart" restarts the old panel binary, which then
    tries to load the new plugin.

    b. There is something wrong with the plugin itself. (I already found
    one bug, but it doesn't fix it.)

Besides the plugin being fixed, I think the restart logic should be
changed to call one of the exec*() functions. That way we get a clean
cut, and the new lxpanel binary would be executed.

For now, you should use "lxpanelctl exit" (or kill the panel however you
like), and then start it with "lxpanel -p Lubuntu".
