My problem though with this download is I am never presented the page
where I can provide my own file name. Instead lynx is presenting a temp
page of some kind that times out, putting me back in the email source for
the file.

control+u to clear that name, then type your replacement file name. I have
certainly expeienced similar, also times where only a capitalized first word
