   Perhaps we should include the lyx.spec file with the source distribution?
   This appears to be becoming normal practice for a number of projects.
   It might also encourage RedHat and other distributors using rpms to 
   use our defaults.

The present spec file is not appropriate since it builds a pre8
package.  

To make an appropriate spec file: under the new configuration, one
should copy lyxrc.example to lyxrc (perhaps make changes), and then
run configure from /usr/local/share/lyx/ ?
