Hi!

I am a teacher and PhD candidate at the Royal Melbourne Institute of
Technology. My field of research is storytelling for digital media. I am a
big fan of LyX/LaTeX, and have been convincing the arts and communications
department to start recommending and supporting LyX for their students.
Arts students are notorious at times for having financial difficulties,
and yet still needing tools such as LyX to complete their degrees.

I have run into some difficulties with LyX and GBib, which may be due to
my own ignorance, but may also be due to my specialised use. Would you be
able to help me?

Here is the list of my suggestions, or where I could use some help:

* Being able to keep chapters as separate documents, and yet have the
numbering continue from chapter to chapter. The Table of Contents and Index
should still be able to produce correct page information automatically.

* Each chapter can have a reference list of its own, not just a single
bibliography at the end of the dissertation. Works about literature are going
to produce huge bibliographies, so it is better to break it up into chapters.

* A search function, not just a search and replace function.

* Word count. Remember, dissertations and their specific sections are required
to have certain word counts. I have simply turned my file into text on a
regular basis to make such a count, but it seems wasteful.

* Markup for sub-titles. Title and sub-title need to be separate if
someone wants to use headings at the top of their pages. My numbers have
frequently been run off the side of the page.

* Top corner numbering without a heading. I see no option for this that I can
find.

* Tables need the same flexibility as those in HTML.

* Formats set up for CD-ROMs, URLs and computer programs in GBib.

* Automatic alphabetical ordering by key, author or title in GBib.

Thank you for your time and effort.

Kind regards,

Katherine
