Not the perfect place to take this discussion but...

What does
host lyx.org
host aussie.lyx.org
host baywatch.lyx.org
host mail.lyx.org

say on your box? (please also check with nslookup)
(I am especially interested in the mx records)

I suspect this to be a nameserver problem and that it will eventually
just cease to exist in a little while.

| Well I now have my new (second-hand) computer setup (almost).
| With this machine I can at least get a response from baywatch -- after
| adding an entry to hosts with the new IP since the dns hasn't propogated
| this far yet (aussie has but baywatch hasn't).
|
| The response I get though is something like:
| You don't have read/write access to the history file.

Hmmm. aussie just have a mirror of the cvs and all changes you make
there will be overwritten anyway. This is only for anoncvs and cvsweb.

| I checked /usr/local/lyx/cvsroot/CVSROOT/avail and see I'm still on the
| list so it's not that simple.

If you checked on aussie you would see that no-one is allowed to write
to the repository.

|
| Maybe there is something else amiss:
| I had to copy aussie:/home/users/rae/.ssh2 to baywatch:/home/rae/.ssh2
| because I found it wasn't even there!

Don't do that.
The correct think is to rerun ssh-keygen(?) and thus have different
keys for aussie and baywatch.

| This is the "separating the
| machines" step I suppose. Perhaps something else needs to be copied
| across?

P'raps.
