Further to this info I find that there were 366 instances of "\layout" in the
original file, but only 16 in the newly saved one.

12 "\layout Standard" and 4 "\layout Caption". There were only 4 "\layout Caption"
in the original file. So this bit works fine! (Or hasn't been changed yet?)
