Not sure about this. Remember that we have undo just in case the user
does not get what he expected.

I do not think there are cases other than font changes (because the
font-as-inset paradigm is strange, whatever we do), where this
behaviour is what the user expects.

For e.g. vector arrows it might make sense, or any kind of "accent", ~a, ^a, ...
