IMHO { Maybe, it is a HIG interpretation thing, but I'm seriously doubting that the HIG says that content-related stuff like the "Document settings..." must be in the File menu. Things like page setup do not influence the content of the document in any way, besides how it is printed. This also holds for the Statistics item, it is really not just a file statistic. It is something that is used while generating content, something that influences whether I can add another sentence to the abstract or not. It also counts words in a selection. So, it is not really a file statistic. In conclusion, the interpretation of the argument that it is file-specific and that it is saved with the document might be reconsidered, because I feel that this only holds for file-specific options that do not influence the content in any way. Last, I agree that it is a good approach to look at independent, well-thought HIGs, but don't forget the other constrictions that were raised in the discussion last days. For example, LyX users are used to having a Document->Settings... Item. They will be disturbed if they have to look for one of the most important menu items. I dreamt last night of a Document menu with the grouped tools (They really must be next to each other, otherwise I will be looking for them over and over again). DOCUMENT MENU: - Spellchecker, that checks my document for spelling errors, - Thesaurus, just because it is next to the Spellchecker, - Statistics, counting words in my document or in specific parts of my document, ============= - Branching, all options in the document->settings dialog are stored in the document except branching information, that is filtered out by LyX itself, so it deserves an item on its own. ============= - Settings..., one of the most important menu items IMO, which users will find when it's in the Document menu, .. Oh and it does of course say something about the document. } Please consider this, Vincent
