but some kind of database sheet, so you don't have to care about any
style-formating of the layout file. are there some advantages to have

That is what the people who have asked for such a thing have really wanted: Something that makes layout construction vastly easier than it is now, and the only way to do that is to have a point-and-click sort of interface that knows what options there are.

Speaking for myself, I think a simple-minded database sheet would be a huge step in the right direction, and then it could be tweaked later.
