I just stumbled over sec. 5.1 of the customization manual which describes how to install LaTeX-package manually.

This section seems quite outdated:
- it contains a lot of special commands and settings that are most probably not needed
- the important point how to unpack a LaTeX-package was missing

I therefore rewrote this section giving the simplest possible method to install a package.

As I'm only on Windows, I need the help of someone on Linux if the paths are correct and that I don't miss any Linux-specific issue. (I have included the older version of the method as yellow note.)

I've done this. Thanks for updating the Windows stuff. I will try to find more information on TeXLive on Linux. I still have 2007 here. I'll also look at my wife's Mac and see if I can add stuff from there.

Please have another look at 5.1. I've added a note about something that should be fixed.

Oh and (not just you), everyone, please make use of character styles in the Customization manual. Use Code for code-like stuff and MenuItem for, uh, menu items. Using them here sets a good example.
