More precisely, there is a lyxrc.dist.in. At configuration time, entries like
\serverpipe "~/Library/Application Support/LyX@version_suffix@/.lyxpipe"
are replaced with proper values.

It also contains entries like
  \open_buffers_in_tabs false
  \mac_like_word_movement true
which make sense on a mac.

Then, make install puts it in the right place. Of course it is not created
in the lib/ directory, so it is not seen when running in place. This could be
changed, though.
