It simply adds proper code to the preamble, but you could also have
added it. So, we have no way to say whether forward/reverse search
is going to work or not... and one doesn't really have to push that
button, see below.

Maybe. However, you don't really need it. Simply redefine the LaTeX->DVI
converter as "latex -src-specials $$i" and that's it (in this case you
don't need to push the enable search button).

That is because no source specials are embedded in the dvi file. If you
use yap, the menu "Tools->Source Links..." brings up a window with the
associations.

However, the fact that the previewer jumps to the top of the first page
means that it works...
