I finally decided to cure the symptom instead of the cause for now. The
issue with quotes is gone. Please test and tell me whether it is worth
backporting to 2.5 (probably) or even 2.4 (probably not)
But considering that the timeout mechanism has been introduced for when
people type quickly (or even cursor movements), it is probably possible
to use the trivial cache approach mentioned above and get rid of the
timer altogether.
