Sure, it would be better. The chess board feature started as a nice idea for a demonstration external inset. When we started it, we did not know that there was something called FEN, and we had no idea which LaTeX package to use. So, we did a quick search on the net, and came up with chess.sty which at the time seemed like the best LaTeX package for the task. Then we had a closer look at xboard, discovered that FEN was the standard chess diagram format, and then Jose hacked up the script to convert FEN to be usable with chess.sty. Or whatever. So, basically, we got the stuff to work, and we saw that it was nice. It was just polished enough to be somewhat usable, and we were happy. You are more than welcome to adapt it to skak. I would be happy to know that the chess diagram support in LyX was kept up to date, because I really like this feature -- especially the bragging value of it. Incidentally, skak is the Danish word for chess. Greets, Asger
