  in .muttrc add

subscribe lyx-

  This will tell mutt that lyx-devel and lyx-users are mailing lists
and that you are subescribed there.

  I am assuming mutt >= 1.2 else change that to lists.

  Once you set that, you reply with L and mutt knows that you are
replying to a mailing list so it takes the necessary measures.
