Do you know if the the xml toolchain ( with fop for the print backend) supports unicode? I guess so, but since I don't need it so much I haven't tried. For 1.3 my goal is to output also xml, so that should be enough for you. LyX-Code can be used with the same purpose of code, since I started from scratch, as I was expecting the latex's guys ;-) to clean the mess that is LyX-Code I have implemented code for linuxdoc/docbook.
