While I see the correct thing here (reading on a linux machine with
emacs/gnus), when I checked my mail this morning on my palm I saw two
points for first line and three points for the second.

I remember a long time ago when I used the "mail" unix command to
write mail that one had to put a "." alone on a line to finish the
message. I wonder whether this is related to some feature of the mbox
message list structure (like the infamous >From bug).
