I think I've fixed this is svn.  It should no longer eat CPU even when
idle.  How slow it is elsewhere... yes, it's probably still quite slow.
But for me it's usable on this (overpowered) 2.8GHz P4.  Mouse-dragging
to select text is noticably very slow.
