A docking interface would be great for LyX. There are some nice ideas in Koffice design competition http://www.koffice.org/competition/gui1results.php One other aspect to be considered, is that KDE is developping around CMake a cross-platform building environment for Qt 4 applications. Maybe, LyX could jump in the wagon. A low hanging fruit with Qt 4.1 would be to use the new syntax highlightning class for ERT and the format document widget.
