  Yes, it is. There are certain concerns that only apply to windows. This is a 
concern with linux/unix users. There are system administrators that will not 
install lyx if it is too much work.

  Compiling and installing qt4 in a old distributions with ancient tools fits 
this category.

  I say this although I am running the latest Fedora all time.

  I have been in several places with a large base of installed computers and 
it almost looked like linux was configured in a way to make difficult to use 
it. If we do not make the installation easy people will really not install 
it.

  As the coordinator of 1.5 release this seems to me as a requirement. If not 
then let us be bold, instead of python 2.3 let us require python 2.5 and so 
on... :-)
