Yes, but what if you do many previews in a same session?
Then there will be a lot of temp files under this lyx tmp directory.
If lyx quits normally (hopefully also when lyx is killed by Ctrl-C),
they will all be cleaned; otherwise, we depend on the os to clean /tmp
and its equivalences.
I do not see a problem of multiple temp files since diskspaces are
cheap nowadays. As a matter of fact, having multiple versions of
output can be an advantage, for example, if a user wants to compare
the outputs.
