While switching to enchant is a very good idea, I have to warn you
that this is not going to happen in 1.4 (unless the patch is really
really trivial).
That may very well be the case, the aspell API is apparently used only
in "src/aspell.C". Keeping the same spell interface with a new
Enchant.[Ch] should not be too difficult and won't be intrusive at all.
So compiling aspell with msvc is worthwhile.
Aspell-0.60.4 is not clean enough apparently and Peter Kummel has done
already the port of Aspell-CVS (the patch is in their sourceforge
project). So I guess this is the way to go.
But then, I would not want to discourage someone :)
Yes, Joost, if you're interested, please don't work with the 1.4 branch.
In any case the switch should happen for 1.5 IMHO. So if the patch is
simple enough we could down port it to 1.4.
