First: it doesn't matter which release you are using. If you are using
1.1.4xxx please install pwd.exe in /apps/lyx114/external. I checked that
this works pretty good, too!

Your question about LyX 1.1.5pre1: I have not mentioned any instability on
win32 ;-) There are many enhancements which I would not miss anymore. For
example if you indent some parapraphs you will see a red brace on the left
side, so you can see which paragraphs are indented. And you can include own
icons with self defined functionality into the icon bar! And the error
messages are enhanced, so you can fix latex errors better than before. And,
and, and ....

Try it! You can install both versions because each version uses its own
directory in /apps. But remember: 1.1.5pre1 makes changes in the lyx files
in some cases (read about this at www.lyx.org) so that previous versions can
in that cases not read that file without errors! So it is recommended to
backup the files before using pre1!
